Tom Olsenprincipal, Alberta
After 25 years in the worlds of media and public affairs, Tom Olsen joined Earnscliffe Strategy Group in November 2011 to develop and lead the Alberta practice. Tom brings a flair for strategic communications and media management, helping clients make complex issues understandable – in a range of media formats.
Tom led communications for the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta through its 2011 leadership campaign where Premier Alison Redford was elected. Before that, he served as Director of Media Relations for Redford’s predecessor in Alberta, providing communications support and advice in Alberta, across Canada and on missions to the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
When he was Director of New Media and Internet Communications for Alberta, Tom oversaw the development of social media platforms within the provincial government, and the implementation of the province's first social media policy.
A respected journalist, Tom was the Alberta Legislature bureau chief for the Edmonton Journal and Calgary Herald, and political affairs columnist for the Calgary Herald, providing analysis and commentary on Alberta politics.
It is by combining his political and media skills that Tom supports clients as they navigate the government and public policy dynamics in Alberta.
Tom is a regular commentator on television and radio. He is father to two children.
